Discovering Nature

Two days ago, 6 p.m. I do not run; I jog at a slow walking place. 100 yards ahead two grandparents are walking with a toddler in between them. The child looks back at me, stares for awhile, and then tries of jogging. Like most toddlers he is not in full control of his limbs, and the “jogging” looks more like ecstatic dancing at a rock festival. The grandmother begins to jog next to the child, the child watches, and his form improves. As I catch up to the trio near campsite number 3, the grandparents have taken the child near the stream. The child squeals with joy and laughter at its first exposure to the sight and sound of a bubbling stream and fast moving water. Another human makes that first connection with nature that will sustain him or her throughout the remainder of their life.
