Silken Threads

8:00 a.m. Insects are almost gone from the overnight cold, but this morning other crawling things reveal themselves. At mile 1.4 along the south side of the road and backlit by the morning sun, a milepost, tall grasses, and trees have long silver threads trailing from them. In mid-day overhead light, these silken threads would be invisible. Unseen and despite the cold, spiders are floating on the morning katabatic wind.
